Thanks for the comment, I'm still catching up on big parts of history after not paying enough attention in History class. You're right there's some inaccuracies in this - I might edit it at some point and change quite a bit.

I do think it goes beyond just a 'paternalistic' dislike/judgement of America though - there's some very visceral hate in the UK for Americans. Most people don't think of them as a 'rebellious child' but as their own thing.
